After originally premiering on NBC in 2001, Fox has announced that “Fear Factor” will return to viewers for the 2025-2026 season. The series previously pitted three men and three women against one another as they competed in a series of increasingly disgusting and death defying challenges, including tasks like eating spiders, diving into cow’s blood, and crawling across a tightrope stretched between two rooftops.
“Fear Factor” completed a six season run on NBC with podcaster Joe Rogan as its host before getting the axe in 2006. The show was later brought back for a nine episode run in 2011, but was never renewed for a second season. MTV later revived the competition series in 2017, bringing in rapper Ludacris to host. The revival celebrated two seasons with MTV before once again getting cancelled.
It has since been confirmed that the series will get another shot with Fox featuring the title “Fear Factor: The Next Chapter.” According to a report from Variety, the show will be “bigger, bolder and more daring” than its previous iterations. Describing the forthcoming series, Variety revealed that the reboot would see contestants “Dropped into an unforgiving, remote location, a group of strangers will live together under one roof, and face mind-blowing stunts, harrowing challenges and a twisted game of social strategy where trust is fleeting — and fear is a weapon.”
It remains unclear who will host the latest “Fear Factor” project, though Fox has commented on the possibility of Joe Rogan returning to the role. “Obviously, [Rogan’s] major talent tied to the show,” said Fox Entertainment President of Entertainment Michael Thorn, adding, “But it’s too early for us to say how we’re going to move forward right now. But we’re thrilled to have the property, and think we’re going to be able to really complement our unscripted lineup with it.”
Thorn added that the decision regarding who will host “Fear Factor: The Next Chapter” will likely be revealed in the coming days. “Probably next week,” said Thorn in an interview with Variety published on Monday, May 12. “It’s a great opportunity for someone,” Thorn added.
“Fear Factor: The Next Chapter” will appear as part of Fox’s 2025-2026 slate alongside another former NBC title, “The Weakest Link.” The series made its American debut on NBC in 2001, but celebrated its most recent reboot from 2020 to 2023 with “Glee” star Jane Lynch playing host. A celebrity version of the series has also been ordered by Fox for a Fall 2025 debut.
Also returning for Fox’s Fall 2025 unscripted schedule are series like “Name That Tune,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” and “Special Forces: World’s Toughest.”
