Bear Bryant and his houndstooth hat (Sound Off) – AL.com

I'm another long-time Bear Bryant fan and the Bear absolutely did wear "cheap hats with large checks." That guy just needs to check out the
under the Bama goalposts. The checks on that hat were so large any woman would be happy to wear that hat.
Concerning Bear Bryant and his houndstooth hat: Bear Bryant never wore a houndstooth hat until after 1965. When Joe Namath signed with the Jets, Sonny Warbler, the owner of the Jets, gave Bear Bryant his first houndstooth hat. If you'll look at the cover where Bear Bryant was on Time Magazine, you'll notice Bryant wore a blue-and-white-checked houndstooth hat, but those checks were not small. Roll Tide.
Every time I read this Sports Sound Off, I just keep thinking: These people in here really need to get a life. It doesn't matter what kind of white-checkered houndstooth you have on. Houndstooth has been around for a long time. Bear was just one of many people to wear it and make it famous. The houndstooth is just something Alabama fans associate him with. It doesn't matter what size the houndstooth is. This is absolutely ridiculous. We have tradition at Alabama. We love Bear Bryant and always will. He was the best coach ever.
In regard to the cheap houndstooth hats: The beads we catch at Mardi Gras are not real pearls, emeralds or rubies, but they sure are fun to wear.
I agree with the
fan's comments in today's Sound Off. Auburn is a fine university. I'm an
fan but Auburn is a fine university. They graduate many people and quite often they have a good football team.
To the caller wondering why Darryl Waltrip was talking to Danica Patrick: Hey, fella. Take a look at Danica Patrick. Wonder no more.
I'm a
season ticket holder and I attended all three of the University of South Alabama games against the College of Charleston. The only thing the USA team was interested in was supporting their new facial hair. I can tell you, the team was undisciplined, not prepared, and frankly, disinterested.
Not all Bama and Auburn fans are blind to what South (Alabama) does. Not only am I an Auburn fan, but I'm also a South fan and student. Don't be so quick to stereotype. Besides, Bama fans are the ones who are arrogant and don't acknowledge other teams.
No mention of the Knicks game, possibly the greatest story of the year? What rock are you living under?
What happened to all the Auburn and LSU fans talking bad about Alabama every week in Sound Off? Roll Tide!
