TILDEN TWP., Pa. – It was a startling sight in the Hamburg area. A man’s home camera system caught a glimpse of a bear strolling through a neighborhood Monday morning.
The man said he’s sharing the video to make others aware that the bear is on the move in the area.
On Yoder Street in Tilden Township, cameras captured the surprise visitor roaming the neighborhood.
“I lived here 25 years. Never seen a bear here,” said Brian Hahn, homeowner.
That all changed around six o’clock Monday morning, when Hahn took a look at his home security cameras and gasped.
“A bear walked right up my walkway, straight out my other walkway and straight up the road,” Hahn said.
Coincidentally, Hahn’s home is decorated with all kinds of bear statues and other bear-themed items.
He said he wanted to spread the word, and make sure the bear didn’t cause any trouble.
“There’s a lot of people around here with dogs and children, and with a bear, it doesn’t really matter — they’ll get what it wants to get,” Hahn said. “There’s farms around here with livestock and stuff.”
Who doesn’t love a Memorial Day picnic?
“Maybe it smelled some food from people barbecuing yesterday,” Hahn said. “Could have been that, just wandering around.”
The Pennsylvania Game Commission says on its website that the black bear population is larger and more widely distributed than in the past, and sightings are possible in all counties.
BearWise recommends removing things that can attract bears form your yard, like garbage, bird seed and pet food.
