A restaurant called Top Hat Delicatessen has opened for business in Fort Lauderdale near the FAT Village neighborhood.
At 415 NE Third St., Top Hat serves soups, salads, sandwiches, cocktails, craft beer, coffee and shakes. The restaurant is the latest concept for be nice, the restaurant group that operates Coconuts, G&B Oyster Bar, Foxy Brown and Red Cow, all in Fort Lauderdale.
Elliot Wolf, Top Hat’s owner, says the restaurant honors his father, Jerry, and grandfather, Max. Wolf’s grandfather migrated from Germany to the U.S. in 1936 and brought with him a cherished top hat, Wolf says. That top hat became a fixture at family gatherings and was worn by each man on his wedding day.
Wolf says eating at delis became a family tradition and something he hopes to pass down to others who also enjoy the experience.
The new restaurant is just north of Broward Boulevard, near the Greyhound bus station. FAT Village — Flagler Arts and Technology Village — is home to tech businesses, artists, musicians and other creative professionals.
