Covering Orlando's Bungalow Neighborhoods
A river otter was discovered in Lake Eola on Monday, July 15, unfortunately, the City of Orlando’s Families, Parks, and Recreation staff also found two Australian Black swans and one duck dead. The assumption is that the otter is responsible for the deaths of the swans and ducks though it was not caught on camera.
River otters are a native species in Florida and have been known to kill swans and other waterfowl, especially young cygnets. Swans are a food source for many wild animals, including foxes, mink, gulls, crows, buzzards, and large fish. Adult swans are also vulnerable when they are resting on land or sitting on their nests.
City staff contacted Florida Fish and Wildlife and Orange County Animal Services for guidance, who convinced the city to hire a private trapper. The otter was captured later that evening and transported to the South Econlockhatche River on Wednesday, July 17.
The City of Orlando is planning to introduce at least six new swans to Lak Eola by the end of the year, according to Ashley Papagni, the Public Information Officer for the Mayor’s Office.

Interesting!
Well it’s a bad idea to bring more swans to the park. I would put bird feeders on these trees for the small birds.
Thank you Brendan for this excellent content
