On the Grammys red carpet on Sunday, there were plenty of notable outfits, like Katy Perry’s Valentino couture dress and Taylor Swift’s all-grown-up Gucci gown, and some genuine moments of oddness. (Madonna. Enough said.) But perhaps no single sartorial touch drew as much attention as did the oversize hat Pharrell Williams wore as he jauntily walked past the paparazzi and chatted with Ryan Seacrest, who, strangely, never thought to ask, “What are you wearing?” (Mr. Williams later told another interviewer it was vintage Vivienne Westwood.) The hat invited comparisons to the Royal Canadian Mounties, Smokey Bear and even the Arby’s logo. And, inevitably, within minutes of its appearance, the hat had its own Twitter account, @Pharrellhat, and, by the next morning, more than 16,000 followers.
