Black Bear Spotted in North Utica Monday Morning – WKTV

UTICA, N.Y. — A black bear was spotted in North Utica early Monday morning.
In a video submitted to NEWSChannel 2, a black bear was observed walking adjacent to houses along Locust Drive, which is right behind BJ’s.
The video was submitted by Kathy Ganci, taken at 2:38 a.m. Monday.
There were reports that there was a black bear struck on I-790, and that Utica DPW had to be called in to remove it.
We are currently working to get more information on the status of the bear, and its location from officials.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation states that there are around 6,000 to 8,000 bears in the state.

Three bears had to be euthanized this past weekend in Old Forge after the mother bear became aggressive towards the tourists.
Utica Street in the Village of Clinton was the latest area for a bear sighting.
