MotoGP is close to finalising a new US media rights deal with Fox Sports for the 2025 season.
BlackBook Motorsport understands that the aim is for the new agreement to be in place for this weekend’s season-opening race in Thailand.
The MotoGP website no longer lists the US on its broadcasters page, hinting that a deal to replace TruTV could be close.
TruTV and Max’s B/R Sports Add-On showed every race of the 2024 season live as part of a deal with Warner Bros Discovery (WBD)-owned TNT Sports.
Fox Sports was first linked to the rights in early January, and Sports Business Journal (SBJ) has also reported that a deal is now in advanced discussions.
MotoGP has struggled to make a significant impact in the US, but the impending takeover by Liberty Media will hopefully change things in this regard – assuming EU regulators approve the deal.
Nascar team Trackhouse Racing expanded into the series last season, while MotoGP currently visits the US once per season with its race at the Circuit of The Americas.
Elsewhere, KTM’s creditors have reportedly approved a restructuring plan that secures the company’s future in a boost for the MotoGP team.
The team had looked on the verge of exiting the series due to its parent company’s financial difficulties, but creditors have agreed a cash quota of 30 per cent for debts totalling €2 billion (US$2.1 billion).
Around €750 million (US$787 million) must be deposited by 23rd May 2025, made up of €600 million (US$629 million) for the cash quota and continuation costs of €150 million (US$157 million).
€50 million (US$52.5 million) for the month of March has already been deposited, but the identity of the investor is currently unknown.
Bajaj Auto, which owns a 49.9 per cent stake in KTM, had already injected €50 million into the company in the form of a loan.
