Houndstooth hat found in Bear Bryant’s Cadillac sells for $28,000; baseball cap brings in $25,000 – AL.com

Score another win for Bear Bryant – or at least hats owned by the late University of Alabama football coach.
Lelands Auction House recently sold two hats owned by the legendary coach, who passed away in 1983 at the age of 69. The hats share an interesting history with both found by the person who purchased  Bryant’s 1972 Cadillac after his death. The hats were found under a car seat during restorations.
The black and white houndstooth hat, complete with a label indicating it was an “Original Paul “Bear” Bryant” hat, sold for $28,731. There were 33 bids.
The Crimson Tide baseball hat has a band that reads “I ain’t nothing but a winner,” with Bryant’s name below it. There were 45 bids on the hat, eventually selling for $25,121.
The auctions closed on Dec. 11.
