Medicine Hat Tigers host their annual Teddy Bear toss game Saturday night – CHAT News Today

The Medicine Hat Tigers are back in action Saturday night, with their annual Teddy Bear Toss game on the slate.
Fans are encouraged to bring new stuffed animals, and winter gear like toques, mittens and scarves to the game to throw on the ice when the Tigers score their first goal.
In town are the Edmonton Oil Kings, a divisional opponent the Tigers have splits wins with during their four previous meeting this season.
The Tigers currently sit in first in the WHL’s Central Division with 16 wins, 12 losses, and one overtime loss, good for 33 points.
The Oil Kings enter the contest last in the tight Central Division with 12 wins, 12 losses, an overtime loss and a shootout loss, to sit with 26 points in three less games than the Tigers.
Last season, Tigers forward Cayden Lindstrom scored the teddy bear toss goal early in game, that set off bears raining down on the ice at Co-op Place.
Lindstrom is still not with the team yet at this point, recovering from surgery in Columbus.
But another member of the current Tigers team, scored that goal the year prior.
Team Captain Oasiz Wiesblatt had the lone marker for the Tigers in the 2022 game, and remembers it fondly.
“I definitely remember it. We kind of waited a little bit longer to score it. It was a great feeling to score it and kind of see all those Teddy’s flying,” Wiesblatt said.
“I think I ended up trying to shoot a few down. It’s a really cool game to play in and the boys are really excited to play.”
The stuffed animals and winter gear is asked to be bagged to keep moisture out, and for easy pickup.
Donations will be split between the Medicine Hat & District Health Foundation, The Salvation Army, the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter and the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund.
Will Bryant and Lance Doll will have the radio broadcast on Wild 94.5 starting at 6:30 p.m.
Puck drop for the game at Co-op Place is at 7 p.m.
